Day 214: renn’d

Katie and I went to the Ardenwood Farm (First Annual) Renn Faire (and Shakespeare Festival), although the Shakespeare part of the title is a bit…misguided. There was very little Shakespearean content. Maybe even none.

However, it was still fun and a bit silly. We saw many kids dressed up in charming ways, and some people dressed up as knights who tried to knock each other off horses.

We also ate some authentic ye olde fried rice and pan fried noodles, and saw some goats and sheep (who were not dressed up).

Oh! There was this random guy dressed as a lizard. And a guy dressed as Robin Hood with the head of a fox. I think if you buy one of those costumes, you just find opportunities to wear it. I wouldn’t be surprised if they wore those costumes to work.

Day 213: small biz

Yesterday, we ate at a place called Lil’ Yummy.  It was a chicken/fish and chips/burger place that also served Korean barbeque.  It had fried sweet potato as a side, which was not actually sweet potato fries but a sort of fried slices of yam thing.

Today, we got Katie’s ring fixed at a local goldsmith who was helpful, friendly, efficient, and let us look through his little magnifier thing at some grooves that were in Katie’s ring that we had never seen before.  It’s now fixed and back on her hand, but the whiteness of the white gold is a bit iffy.

So…way to go, small businesses!  You’ve made my weekend enjoyable so far.

We may, if the rain holds, venture out tomorrow to a show, movie, or the local renaissance faire.  Either way, excitement awaits!  What does the present hold?  A late night snack to satiate my hunger!

Day 212: hearty

I heard my unborn baby’s heartbeat today.

It was really fast.

I assume this means it’ll have some kind of superpowered heart, allowing it to run faster, punch harder, or be a super princess if it’s a girl and conforms strictly in societal expectations.

Either way, there is little to no chance that our baby will be anything other than a superhero.  Maybe a superheart will even allow it to fly.  Or at the very least, jump really high.

Day 211: welcome back, football

So I thought I had fixed my DVR last night and set it to record the beginning of the Steelers game tonight.  I came home a bit later than intended and sat down to play the game.

Unfortunately, I had not fixed my DVR as well as I thought.  While it was fine with watching Live TV and recording last night while I was in front of the TV, it had a problem going idle for an entire day before starting a recording.  Oops.

Fortunately, I had arrived with about 10 minute left in the fourth quarter and saw the heartbreaking fumble by Hines Ward and the efficient overtime drive by Ben to get the Steelers off to a good start to the season.

I’ve missed football.  That’s not entirely true.  I’ve missed my Steelers.

Football season is nice.  It’s a reasonable and watchable number of games and it only happens on weekends.  You get a whole week to celebrate your victories and recover from your defeats.

I’m kind of glad I didn’t see Polamalu get hurt.  Now, back to the end of Project Runway and some more Beatles: Rock Band.
