Day 238: the office

When Netflix came to the 360, one of the first TV shows I put on the instant queue was The Office. It had been going for many seasons now and I’d heard good things about it. Also, with the 360 Netflix connectivity, it was just so easy.

The result? Katie and I have been watching The Office off and on for the past few months, up until a few weeks ago. At that point, some upsetting red words appeared on the 360: The Office seasons 1-4 were expiring on October 1! We needed to hurry!

We watched the second half of season 4 with vigor and finished with a day or two to spare. And, on October 1, lo and behold, season 5 appeared on Watch Instantly. So, since the beginning of this month, we’ve been plowing through this past season of episodes in an attempt to be caught up to Jim and Pam’s (SPOILER) wedding. That episode airs tomorrow on live TV, so I’m not sure if we’ll quite make it (we have 4 episodes from last season and the first 3 of this season to catch up on), but we’re much closer than I would have anticipated a few weeks ago.

So, The Office marathons? Recommended. With such short episodes, it’s almost too easy to sit down and watch a third of a season before you even know what you’ve done.

Oh, and the show’s pretty funny as well.

Day 226: do you have what it takes to be an agent?

In Europe, people are now playing MySims Agents.
In the U.S., the game will hit store shelves next Tuesday.

I’ve worked on a bunch of games, and I’m proud of all of them (yes, even The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff) but MySims Agents was a bit of a departure because it was the first level/story-based game that I was a part of.

I did a bunch of writing on it, and I – when I played it myself multiple times over the past few months – am a big fan of the writing and humor that our entire team put into the game.

If you have a Wii, you should play it.
If you don’t have a Wii, you should buy one when they price drop to $200 in a week or so, and then play it.
If you don’t like video games, you should play it anyway because it’s got simple controls and you might like it.
If you don’t have a TV, you’re out of luck.

I mean, I guess you could buy a TV, but if you’ve held out this long, you might as well just keep not owning a TV. To you, I say thank you for making it out to the public library to read this, as I assume you also don’t have a computer and may be Amish.

If you are Amish, good work on those fake fireplaces! My in-laws have one and you hardly tell that the fire isn’t real.

Day 209: 8:44

The clock in our family room stopped at about 8:44.  Whether that was 8:44 PM tonight, 8:44 AM this morning, or sometime yesterday, I’m not sure.

But it’s very disorienting.  Especially when you spend all night watching the final few episodes of season 3 of The Office only to find that somehow time has managed to stand still.

It’s odd, because watching episodes of The Office always feels so quick anyway.  An episode will breeze by before any time at all has passed, so I wasn’t too surprised to look up and see that it was not yet 9 PM.

Except that the new Woot item had been posted.  And my stomach was hungry.  And Brian, who has a young daughter, was on his Xbox playing Batman.  All of which would have been impossible had it only truly been 8:44, except for me being hungry.

So, I’ll need to put a new battery in our clock and get Katie some Coco Puffs.  The Coco Puffs aren’t really related except that they, too, are timeless.

Day 203: glee

We watched Glee tonight on TV.  While the DVR is busted, we’ve been forced to watching shows when the network wants us to.  It’s frustrating and so last decade.

I liked Glee.  It’s like an aged up High School Musical.  Also, any show with choreographed dances?  Good in my book.

My high school never had a glee club, so I don’t really know what one is.  Do most high schools have glee clubs and mine was an outlier?  Do only schools in certain areas of the country have glee clubs?  Or is a recent phenomenon that only arose after I graduated from high school?

As if the show needed to cater to the demographic of me any more specifically, they’re having a “tweet-peat” this Friday, where they’ll replay the episode while simultaneously having people involved in the show tweet details and answer questions on Twitter.  Thank you Internet, for making something like this a reality.

OK, off to try to take Iwo Jima with some friends.
