Day 174: yosemite pictures and the plot to kill hitler

Finally got around to picking some of our Yosemite pictures, which are now up on our Picasa web albums.  Enjoy!

Katie and I watched Valkyrie tonight, which was enjoyable enough.  It’s a bit sad, since you know that it can’t end well for one-eyed Tom Cruise and his cohort of demagogues.  It takes away a bit of the enjoyment because as much as you want to root against Hitler, you know that at the end of the film, Hitler doesn’t lose – at least, not yet.

Still, the cast is pretty eclectic and seeing eyepatched Cruise in cahoots with Bill Nighy and Kenneth Branagh isn’t a bad way to spend an evening.

I stayed up a bit later than anticipated last night, so I think I’m off to take a warm bath, eat some ice cream for contrast, then slide into bed.  Good night, you princes of the Internet!

Day 153: yosemite recap with pictures

Mainly pictures because I spent a lot of time in the car today and I’m quite tired.

Let’s start off with a grand view of the Bridalveil waterfall, including my mom looking quite startled that a giant tourist is staring down at her!  We escaped before the guy ate anyone.

Here’s my dad posing in front of the lower Yosemite falls with his new friend!  He swore that he didn’t even know she was there, but I’m pretty sure my parents secretly adopted her.

Check out all that granite!  I hope you’re impressed, because this mod squad certainly isn’t.

Here’s my mom again, claiming the meadow in the name of the Dai family!

Here’s us at the fallen tunnel tree, also known as Disappointment Point.  We look happy, but we’re not.  We’re angry at the tree.

My mom and Katie standing around on top of Glacier Point.  My mom has realized that a picture is being taken but Katie hasn’t quite gotten there yet.  She’s admiring my fine body, out of the picture to the right.  Or some European guy.

And let’s close it out with this spectacular picture of my dad, who is so ecstatic about our trip that he broke out into spontaneous song!

For future reference, my two favorite spots in the park were definitely Glacier Point (and a few of the outlooks leading up there) and Lake Tewana.  One national park down, 387 to go!

Day 152: das ist glacier point!

We went to Glacier Point in Yosemite today. That view is off the hook. Also, there were lots of German people. Yosemite must advertise heavily in Berlin or something.

We also walked 2 miles uphill to see a tree that had fallen down. It was an invigorating walk, but the actual tree was a bit of a letdown.

My feet are dirty, my legs are tired, and I’m pretty happy. The question now is: hot tub with the parents or in bed with the DS? DS is not an acronym for Katie, like Darling Spouse. It’s a video game system. Let’s get our priorities straight here.

Day 151: super lazy sunday

It’s been a very lazy day.

The most mental exertion I had today was trying to remember if I had crocheted a certain row’s pattern 5 times or 6 times.

The most physical exertion was grilling some salmon.

Being away from home also has meant that I’ve barely spent any time online and being out of cell phone coverage means that I’ve only been checking my Twitter once or twice a day instead of constantly.

It’s certainly a nice change of pace from my normal day-to-day business. It’s been a long time since I could really just sit all day and not feel guilty about it. Tomorrow promises a good day of driving through some more of Yosemite. I’ll try and get some pictures of the sequoia groves and Glacier Point in between gasps of actually seeing the things I’m only used to seeing on TV during Planet Earth.
