Day 261: pumpkin victory

I won the EA pumpkin carving contest with my pumpkin that I carved until around 4:30 AM this morning!

I know that yesterday I said it wasn’t a big deal if I won, but winning (even if it was just by applause) did make me happy.  I got two movie tickets, a random book, and the appreciation of my peers.

I also helped the MySims team sweep the three categories we competed in: pumpkin carving, male costume, and group costume.

OK, here are the pumpkin pictures I promised, with a timeline of last night:

So, I’m off to bed a bit early tonight and hoping to sleep most of tomorrow morning.  But, it was all worth it.  The pumpkin looks great and I got free movie tickets.  Also, I really enjoy taking the time to carve tiny details into a gourd.

Day 260: another pumpkin

I’m carving another pumpkin tonight, this one for the EA pumpkin carving contest tomorrow at work.

It’s not really a matter of winning, although that’d be a nice surprise. It’s just that I was excited to have the chance to carve another custom creation after the MorcuPump. Katie and I make a good team, too; Katie’s quite good at turning a picture into a pattern and I don’t mind the rather long task of actually carving.

Sadly, the MorcuPump has died. I somehow managed to buy some kind of auto-destruct pumpkins, as all of the people who participated in our pumpkin carving night seem to have suffered the same predicament.

Off to do some more carving! I’ll post some pictures later tonight or tomorrow.

Day 256: carving pumpkins

We had friends over today, and we all carved pumpkins.

It was lots of fun and I think everyone’s pumpkins turned out really well.

Check it out:

And here’s the one that I carved, with the help of Katie’s great custom pattern that she drew up for me based on some MySims concept art:

And here it is, in progress!

I encourage all of you to go carve a pumpkin!  It’s lots of fun, cheap, and you get to use tiny saws with orange handles!

Day 248: pumpkin’d

Katie and I woke up at about 6 AM this morning in the quest for pumpkin pancakes.

You see, the Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival was today and the festival kicks off with a pancake breakfast that starts at 7 AM.  The festival itself doesn’t even open until 9, but as there’s only three routes into Half Moon Bay, all the roads are entirely clogged by 8 AM or so.

We made it down to Half Moon Bay before the traffic hit and were able to indulge in some delicious pancakes.  We then spent most of the rest of the day walking around, admiring the expensive homemade crafts, watching a juggling unicycle show (that I participated in!), watching a lame parade, meeting up with some friends, eating a sausage sandwich, sitting in a gazebo, eating pumpkin ice cream, seeing a future Mike Yin, going to a haunted house, leaving the festival, eating hummus, and collapsing at home.

It’s been a very long day, and it’s not even 9 PM yet.

But we conquered today.  We did everything we set out to do, and even a bit more.  We went big.  And then, we went home.
