Day 272: cod:mw2

I just spent all night playing Modern Warfare 2.

I don’t usually indulge in massive game playing of a game on release day, but a combination of events led to this.

Amazon had it on sale with a promotion where I was able to get a $20 credit for future purchases if I bought it from them.  Because I’m currently in the midst of a free Amazon Prime trial, I was able to get the game with release day delivery for free.

So to take advantage of this fortuitous intersection of circumstances, I played both the single player campaign and a bit of multiplayer tonight.  It’s a good game.

The campaign is heart-pounding, suspenseful, and fun to play.  The multiplayer is just as punishing as the first Modern Warfare, but I so far have thoroughly enjoyed hitting people in the face with a riot shield while they try in vain to shoot me.

I also got to help read lines from high school plays this morning and ate shepherd’s pie for dinner.  Aside from the fact that Windows 7’s Homegroup networking, which is purported to make home networking so easy, doesn’t work, it’s been a pretty good day.

Day 241: the secret to going pro at a yogurt by weight place

Layers.

Some froyo.

Some toppings.

More froyo.

More toppings.

Voila!  You’ve just become the envy of every other yogurt-eater in the place.  Also, it means you don’t run into the disappointing situation where you manage to eat all of your toppings but still have a large portion of froyo left to ingest.

Also, speaking of disappointing, I’ve played about 3 hours of the new DS Kingdom Hearts game this weekend and I have yet to see a single Disney character.

Lastly, here’s another secret: Katie’s jeans now have an elastic section around the top of them!

Day 231: electricity?

An electrician came over today and helped us get our lights back on.

Then, he said some stuff about lines and fuses and breakers that I didn’t fully understand, but I think the gist of it was that although all our lights and outlets work again, there’s some funky wiring that causes our fuses to be bypassed by some loop/crossing of wires somewhere that – although not dangerous – is not the “right” way to do things.

So, maybe we’ll have an electrician over again in a little bit to do some more wiring work.  But, for now, everything is back on and humming again!

Also, I discovered where our master breaker box is, which should be useful should anything similar to what happened a few days ago happen again.

If you follow this blog, you might have noticed another post earlier today that mentioned Welkin’s Journal.  This is a experimental podcast that I’m trying out that is the journal of a character in the video game Valkyria Chronicles.  This is probably of interest to only a few of you, but if you like hearing my voice, maybe you could get something out of it without knowing what the video game is about.

Time for a fudge bar and some sleep.

Day 226: do you have what it takes to be an agent?

In Europe, people are now playing MySims Agents.
In the U.S., the game will hit store shelves next Tuesday.

I’ve worked on a bunch of games, and I’m proud of all of them (yes, even The Sims 2 IKEA Home Stuff) but MySims Agents was a bit of a departure because it was the first level/story-based game that I was a part of.

I did a bunch of writing on it, and I – when I played it myself multiple times over the past few months – am a big fan of the writing and humor that our entire team put into the game.

If you have a Wii, you should play it.
If you don’t have a Wii, you should buy one when they price drop to $200 in a week or so, and then play it.
If you don’t like video games, you should play it anyway because it’s got simple controls and you might like it.
If you don’t have a TV, you’re out of luck.

I mean, I guess you could buy a TV, but if you’ve held out this long, you might as well just keep not owning a TV. To you, I say thank you for making it out to the public library to read this, as I assume you also don’t have a computer and may be Amish.

If you are Amish, good work on those fake fireplaces! My in-laws have one and you hardly tell that the fire isn’t real.
