Day 166: quantum of what-ace?

Katie and I just watched Quantum of Solace, which was a relatively enjoyable experience.

Perhaps it’s just late and I’m tired, but I’m not sure I got everything.  The movie seems to be a series of action sequences separated by bursts of exposition and plot, which makes it a bit hard to actually tell what is truly occurring in the overarching story.

Or am I just dense?  I don’t remember Bond movies being this hard to follow, although I don’t think it’s the overall plot so much as the details, which seem ever-so-important in the way the actors say them but don’t seem to actually be important.

What is the Quantum of Solace?  Why are all these different groups of people trying to kill James Bond?  When did he turn into a hand-to-hand Jason Bourne-esque assassin instead of a gadget driven agent?

I liked it, but I fear I will go to bed tonight a bit confused.

Day 165: michaels has nothing i want

I went to Michaels today because a few weeks ago, I won a $50 gift card there at the Sims 3 ship party.  I needed some safety eyes, which are small black plastic eyes that go onto cute crocheted animals.  It is perhaps the most crafts-oriented thing I’ve ever looked to buy.

Michaels had no safety eyes, nor did they have the few other things I was looking for (scrapbook extenders or ice cream)!  What a lousy trip.

And I forgot to use my gift card when checking out, so I paid cold hard cash for a mini glue gun.

I intend to return to their store at some point and secretly hot glue things to their shelves in the wrong place.

Day 164: iphone self destruct

There is an option on the iPhone, under password settings, which you can set to have your phone automatically delete all your data if the password is entered incorrectly 10 times in a row.

This option frightens me.  It frightens me enough that no amount of security/privacy paranoia can convince me to turn it on, but it also frightens me that it even exists.

What if it accidentally gets turned on?  A mere 40 button pushes later, all my data will be gone.  Forever.

Well, until I resync with my computer, at which point I’ll get to restore my latest backup.

But still.  It’s scary.  Just in principle, if not in actual practice.  And being frightening in principle is much worse.

Day 163: ice cream social

Tonight, I participated in an ice cream social that was not engineered by any type of company or school as part of an icebreaker, but rather as an activity at someone’s home.

It was quite enjoyable and I got to bring home some partial brownies, to keep forever as a memory.  Or at least, until I eat them tomorrow.

Also, Beethoven’s 2nd is a terrible video game.
