Day 277: seattle’d

Katie and I back, safe and sound in our home, from the frigid and rainy environs of Seattle.

It was a whirlwhind trip, filled with the sound of pugets and the fury of bacon.

We celebrated Katie’s siblings’ birthdays and ate lots of food.

I took some videos on my little pocket flip cam, and I’ll try to edit together a five-minute (or shorter!) summary of what happened in the big city.

As for tonight though, both Katie and I are pretty wiped.  I thought I’d play some Modern Warfare 2 when I got home, but I think we’re both just going to hit the sack.

Day 276: seattle summary

Monorail, experience music project, science fiction museum and hall of fame, magic dragon Chinese food, space needle, attack of the pugets, nordstrom, gamestop, gap, root beer party, what time is it? Miss state!, salmonfest, loud mustacioed man, collosal tin roof sundae, doner-oake?, carousel slideshow, more cake.

Day 275: mid-air

I’m writing this while suspended in the middle of the sky on a steel bird.

That’s right, with in-flight wifi, the future is here. I’m never further than an IM or email away from the world, even when flying at thousands of feet above the ground.

Virgin America is so hip, it’s a little discomforting. At the gate, the employees played a trivia game with everyone and the winners got Virgin America shirts. The in-flight entertainment system has satellite TV and there are outlets below each seat so that our electronics can’t die on us mid-flight. You can order headsets and food from your seat using the touchscreen in front of you.

You can even send a chat message directly to another seat! Along with the free Google-provided wifi, it’s a bit much. It doesn’t feel like travel anymore. The thrill of taking off and arriving at your destination has been usurped by the desire to get into the air so that we can all fire up our electronic devices or play Doom with our in-flight entertainment system.

That said, it’s still pretty cool. I, for one, do always enjoy ordering food without having to talk to humans, except when they deliver it to me.

Day 274: i bought another xbox

…because it was net $100 on Amazon and, after some network finagling, we’ll be able to use it as an extender in the bedroom, where we can watch streaming Netflix or recorded DVR programs.

I know, I know, two?  Really?  It was easier to convince ourselves that this wasn’t a silly idea if we think of the machine in the bedroom as more of a DVR extender/internet streaming computer than another game console.  Lord knows we have enough game consoles under this roof already.

Also, we’re flying to Seattle tomorrow to celebrate the birthdays of Katie’s siblings using part of our Day in the Cloud reward pack.  I’ll even take along our prize netbook to use some free in-flight wifi.

We may have some free time in Seattle (or we may not), so if you’re a Seattlite (Seattlean?  Seattler?) and really want to see us, drop me an email or tweet or Facebook message and I’ll see what our plans are once we get up there.  We’ll only be there until Sunday afternoon, so it’s a pretty short trip.
