Day 301: no/not exactly/too general

I have often wondered what the future might be like. Will we have flying cars, robot butlers, or corn on the cob as big as a person? We’ll never know.

Unbeknownst to me, the future has already arrived in the form of a website. This website may be poorly localized, but that hardly matters as it is written not in HTML or PHP, but magic.

I give you akinator.com!

Day 300: things that all web browsers should have

  • Tabs
  • Mouse gestures
  • The ability to remember what state I shut it down in
  • An easy way to add RSS feeds to Google Reader
  • Multiple profiles
  • Ways to access search on a site (like Wikipedia) as easily as a bookmark
  • Synchronized bookmarks
  • Easy to use and manage password remembering
  • Searchable history and bookmarks
  • The ability use Google without visiting google.com
  • The ability to reopen a tab I just closed
  • At-a-glance method of noting website security/encryption
  • Accurate print preview telling me how many pages will print

I’ve been using Google Chrome (the dev build) for quite a while now, and I must say that I don’t miss Firefox at all.  With the announcement of an extension library today and the speed at which Chrome launches (and the ability to stop one particular tab – or even flash app – that’s causing the browser to crash), it has won my heart as far as web browsers go.

I’m sure I could find all the functionality I’ve grown to love in Chrome in Firefox if I tried.  Firefox has so many extensions, it’d be hard to imagine something it couldn’t do.  But I’ve gotten used to Chrome and now it’ll take a bit of extra energy to push me off my orbit and into trying another browser again.

Day 299: driving home today

…the temperature meter on our car said that it was 34 degrees outside.

I don’t know that I’ve ever seen the meter that low before, since we’ve moved out here to California.  What’s become of our fair and sunny state?  How did it get so close to freezing?

At least I’ve got a pregnant wife to cuddle up with under the covers tonight.

And a body pillow from Target.

Day 298: christmas bound!

Today, Katie and I had our second annual Christmas tree cutting. Last year, we went down to Los Gatos to cut one down. This year, we went up to Petaluma.

Also, another incidental tradition that’s started is getting rained on on the day we get the tree. Last year, it was lightly raining the entire time, and today, it started pouring right before we got home.

Regardless, we got the tree into our tree holder quickly and it is now sitting in the corner of our living room. Christmas is coming, and we’ve started our celebration!

I even got up onto the roof last weekend and put up our LED icicle lights!
