{"id":606,"date":"2009-11-08T23:57:00","date_gmt":"2009-11-09T07:57:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=606"},"modified":"2009-11-09T00:02:06","modified_gmt":"2009-11-09T08:02:06","slug":"day-270-windows-7","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=606","title":{"rendered":"Day 270: windows 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m posting this from Windows 7!<\/p>\n<p>Yes, that\u2019s right.&#160; I upgraded the OS on our main computer today.&#160; I watched that little progress bar fill as I listened to old episodes of This American Life on my iPhone and read a book about why children lie.<\/p>\n<p>The OS upgrade was pretty successful.&#160; It\u2019s running and functional.&#160; The only thing missing?&#160; All the programs that were installed on XP.&#160; So, it\u2019ll just be a matter of re-downloading or re-installing a bunch of essential stuff.<\/p>\n<p>Installing a new Operating System is kind of like moving.&#160; You get a bit of a clean start, but you have all of your old crap in some folder stored away somewhere.&#160; But it\u2019s nice to be forced to think about each program again.&#160; Do I <em>really<\/em> need to install that piece of software that I used once?&#160; Should I <em>really<\/em> bring those old sweaters?<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a chance to reevaluate.&#160; What really is <em>necessary<\/em>?&#160; And what junk can I just leave behind, sell at a yard sale, leave undownloaded in the wilds of the Internet?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m posting this from Windows 7!
