{"id":600,"date":"2009-11-04T23:25:06","date_gmt":"2009-11-05T07:25:06","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=600"},"modified":"2009-11-04T23:25:06","modified_gmt":"2009-11-05T07:25:06","slug":"day-266-google-wave","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=600","title":{"rendered":"Day 266: google wave"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>About a week ago, I got an invite to try out Google Wave.&#160; Since then, I\u2019ve messed around with it a bit.<\/p>\n<p>It purports to be a replacement for email (among other things), but the one thing that really hinders the service from being anything other than a novelty at this point is the same thing that would bring it crashing down: ubiquity.<\/p>\n<p>Google Wave invites aren\u2019t easy to come by and the average person on the street, who might be well aware of Gmail, has probably not yet heard of Google Wave.&#160; So, the hodgepodge of friends I have that are using the service aren\u2019t using it regularly; why check an \u201cemail\u201d account on a service used by less than 10% of your contacts and where you never get messages?<\/p>\n<p>Sure, I can see its potential, but it\u2019ll be hard to get a real bearing on the usefulness and practicality of Wave until a large amount of people I know are using on a daily basis.<\/p>\n<p>For now, it\u2019s just a technology without an active userbase, which makes it interesting and fun, but not terribly useful.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>About a week ago, I got an invite to try out Google Wave.&#160; Since then, I\u2019ve messed around with it a bit.
