{"id":542,"date":"2009-10-09T21:42:42","date_gmt":"2009-10-10T05:42:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=542"},"modified":"2009-10-09T21:42:42","modified_gmt":"2009-10-10T05:42:42","slug":"day-240-junk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=542","title":{"rendered":"Day 240: junk"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I acquire junk.<\/p>\n<p>I don\u2019t think of it as junk, not when I first order it online or grab it at a yard sale or take it for free from a table at work.&#160; But it\u2019s true.&#160; It\u2019s junk.<\/p>\n<p>And it sits in the corners of rooms, on my desk at work, on our kitchen table at home, in our closets, until one day, both Katie and I are cleaning and we come upon something so bizarre and completely impractical that all we can do is stop and stare at it.<\/p>\n<p>We both will look at each other, silently saying the following in our heads:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Katie: <\/strong>What is this thing and can we throw it away?    <br \/><strong>Scott:<\/strong> But it\u2019s a cool unique kind of thing!&#160; Is it in the way?&#160; Maybe I might use it someday.    <br \/><strong>Katie: <\/strong>You\u2019re never going to use it.&#160; It doesn\u2019t even work\/fit you\/have a purpose.    <br \/><strong>Scott:<\/strong> Maybe I\u2019ll use it in an art project?    <br \/><strong>Katie: <\/strong>You don\u2019t do art projects.    <br \/><strong>Scott: <\/strong>Maybe you\u2019ll use it in an art project?    <br \/><strong>Katie: <\/strong>Sigh.    <br \/><strong>Scott: <\/strong>I\u2019m sorry.&#160; And ashamed.<\/p>\n<p>Over the years, it really does become a bit appalling.&#160; Did I really have such an obsession with cheap\/free knickknacks and fast food toys?&#160; How does one person even collect so much useless stuff?&#160; Why can\u2019t I just throw away my old and completely outdated technology from the 1990s?<\/p>\n<p>Partially laziness, partially nostalgia, partially stubbornness?&#160; Probably mostly laziness, as I don\u2019t even particularly feel attached to most of the stuff we\u2019ve crammed into the back of our closets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I acquire junk.
