{"id":492,"date":"2009-09-15T22:12:39","date_gmt":"2009-09-16T06:12:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=492"},"modified":"2009-09-15T22:12:39","modified_gmt":"2009-09-16T06:12:39","slug":"day-216-servings","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.scott-n-katie.com\/blog\/?p=492","title":{"rendered":"Day 216: servings"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Katie made some Hamburger Helper tonight.<\/p>\n<p>The box says it\u2019s 5 servings, but the two of us handily finished it off with no problems.<\/p>\n<p>Five servings?&#160; Really?&#160; Maybe for babies.&#160; Even excepting the fact that Katie is 1.5 people right now and I\u2019m just a big glutton, it\u2019s still ridiculous to think that we could each eat 2.5 servings without feeling like we overstuffed ourselves.<\/p>\n<p>Serving sizes are some of the biggest deceptions of our lives.&#160; Forget political secrets or evolution or global warming or Sasquatch.&#160; No company makes accurate serving sizes.&#160; For foods that taste great and are bad for you, the servings are always too small.&#160; For foods that taste bad and are good for you, the servings are always too big.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, it makes it hard to accurately guess how much food to buy and eat.&#160; Did you know that suggested serving sizes even for <em>cats<\/em> are a lie?&#160; Our vet told us that the sizes on the back of the box are high as a ploy so that the companies can sell you more cat food!<\/p>\n<p>So you know what?&#160; Ignore the numbers!&#160; Cut out the nutritional facts box off of your foods and throw it away!&#160; Then, when your doctor tells you you\u2019ve had too many heart attacks, you\u2019ll know you\u2019ve eaten too much!<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s too easy being healthy these days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Katie made some Hamburger Helper tonight.
